Jocelyn Stewart, harpsichord

November 11, 2025
7:00 PM - 8:00 PM
America/New_York
St. Paul's Chapel, 1160 Amsterdam Ave., New York, NY 10027

This program features works by the two most famous 18th century harpsichord composers: JS Bach and François Couperin. Couperin’s intimate, pastoral 6th Ordre is juxtaposed with Bach’s Ouverture nach Französischer Art, a reimagining of a French orchestral Overture and suite of dances for the harpsichord.

Harpsichordist Jocelyn Stewart has enjoyed a varied career in solo, chamber, and orchestral performance. In New York she has appeared on the series Music Before 1800, at Alice Tully Hall, Weill Recital Hall, Miller Theatre, and in a solo recital broadcast live on WQXR from the Koszciusko Foundation. She performed multiple seasons with the Philadelphia Classical Symphony, and in many series throughout the US. Internationally Ms. Stewart has performed numerous recitals in Holland and as concerto soloist throughout South America. As a performing scholar Ms. Stewart has presented lecture recitals for national meetings of the American Musicological Society, the American Recorder Society, the Southeastern and Midwestern Historical Keyboard Societies, and at the Boston Early Music Festival. Ms. Stewart is currently on the faculties of Manhattan School of Music and Columbia University Teachers College, where she teaches harpsichord and historical performance practice.
